Carolyn Joyce Featherston-Reed

Carolyn was the 5th of 8 children born to Julia and Virgil Porter: Doris (deceased), Robert (deceased), Irene, Gloria (deceased), Carolyn, Virgil Jr. (deceased), Lawrence, and John (deceased).

She married James Eugene Featherston in February of 1957 and again in July of 1986. They resided in Kansas City, KS (KCK). Carolyn and James had four children: Vernon Featherston (Regina Byers, KCK); David Featherston (Karen Featherston, Austin, TX); Reginald Featherston (deceased); James Dean Featherston (CaSonya Featherston, KCK)(deceased). She was later married to Perry Reed (deceased 2006).

Carolyn was a proud graduate of Sumner High School, KCK, in 1959. She also attended Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Carolyn was a Certified Surgical Technician and retired from nursing in 2007 with over 40 years of nursing experience at Osteopathic, Bethany, and Providence Hospitals.

Carolyn moved from Kansas City to Houston in 2014. She lived in the Cooperfield Estates Retirement Community for two years before moving in with her granddaughter Angel Patrice Featherston and her great grandson Caleb Patrick in 2017.

Carolyn had many passions in life, including shopping, travel, fashion, and cruising. She was very active in her church community and she was always willing to help family, friends and strangers. She loved sharing inspirational messages on Facebook.

Carolyn was a charter member of Salem Baptist Church, KCK, Rev. Tony Carter Jr. Pastor. She sang in the choir and was a member of the usher board. She attended Salem for over 60 years.

Carolyn is survived by numerous grand children, great grand children, and a host of friends and relatives.

Carolyn will be deeply missed by all.
