2 Timothy 4:6-8 “The time of my departure is come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me that day."
Cathryn O’Donnell Cutrer Holland peacefully passed into the care of her Heavenly Father on the 11th of October 2025.
A native Houstonian, Cathy was born on the 19th of September 1934, to Lawrence and Martha Fisher O’Donnell. Cathy spent her formative school years at St. Anne Catholic School and graduated from Lamar High School, Class of 1953. Following her freshman year at The University of Texas at Austin, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta, Cathy married Lewis Wesley Cutrer Jr. on the 7th of August 1954. The birth of six lovely daughters began in August of the following year, and for the next seventy years Cathy served as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her beloved family.
Cathy cherished family, beginning with her beloved parents, who provided what felt like an idyllic childhood. She adored her husband, Lewis, and through their fifty years of marriage gained wisdom about the natural ups and downs of partnership that ultimately made the marriage bond stronger. Motherhood came naturally and was made fun and memorable with homemade meals, loving birthday celebrations, and countless teachable moments. Cathy loved to travel and savored holiday celebrations, combining the two in a memorable two-week bicentennial road trip in 1976. Gatherings in Houston, New Braunfels, and Wimberley offered Cathy the opportunity to relish the company of her growing family. Known as “Kacki” to her fourteen grandchildren, Cathy made their get-togethers special with her warm hugs, laughter, and attentive listening. Her fun-loving and competitive spirit always entertained in rowdy games of Spoons, Spit, and War. Her family will forever remember the handwritten cards and “just because” letters that often included newspaper clippings and always words of love. While not quite “family,” Cathy delighted in her many friendships, making memories in bridge groups, playing Mah Jongg, gathering at the Houston Country Club, and in the many clubs and organizations in which she participated.
Of utmost importance was Cathy’s faith in her Father God, belief in Jesus her Savior, and devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. A proud and devout Catholic, Cathy was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for nearly 65 years. There she taught religion and sacramental classes, served at daily Mass, participated in Bible studies, and in numerous women’s organizations. Cathy enjoyed travel of any kind but most especially those that included pilgrimages to holy sites. Among her most cherished experiences was holding the hands of Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.
Just shy of 50 years of marriage, her husband Lewis preceded her in death in 2004. Cathy later married Arthur Frederick Holland, and they spent seven years together as joyful companions until his passing in 2014.
Cathy was also preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Lawrence; her brother, Lawrence O’Donnell Jr., and his wife, Annell; and her sister-in-law, Mallory Cutrer Nolte. She is survived by daughters Kellene and husband Larry Davis of San Antonio; Cindy and husband James Hinton of Houston; Lisa and husband R.H. (Hank) Smith Jr. of Midland; Kendall Cutrer of the Brookwood Community in Brookshire; Katey Davis of Austin; and Allison and husband Reece Boudreaux of Midland. Also surviving Cathy are brothers Bill O’Donnell and wife Patricia; Jerry O’Donnell and wife Helene; and Ken O’Donnell and wife Janet; brother-in-law Richard Harrison Cutrer; sister-in-law Lynn Stark Cutrer; and grandchildren: Marisa Davis Peterson (Dr. Tim), Cathryn Davis McNab, Emily Davis Wilen (Howard), Jimmy Hinton (Whitney), Kathleen Hinton Park (Robert), Trevor Smith (Mackenzie), Tyler Smith (Katherine), Blake Smith (Lauren), Haley Smith Finch (Wesley), Neil Davis (Shelby), Patrick Davis (Bree), Alex Davis (Katie), Isabella Boudreaux, and Harrison Boudreaux; as well as twenty-two great-grandchildren.

H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at seven o’clock.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 28th of October, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where Fr. Stephen B. Reynolds is to officiate.
The family will gather for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
The family is most appreciative to Rosa Melchor for her years of dedication and loving care, and to Autumn Years Assisted Living and Cares 4 You Senior Services for their steadfast devotion in Cathy’s final years.
