Born in Georgetown, Texas on January 4, 1944, to Thomas Jay Bingham and Ruthie May Mercer, Gene was a man whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and strength to every room. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend-dearly treasured by all who knew him.
Gene lived his life with unwavering faith, quiet determination, and a deep love for his family and country. A proud member of the Elevator Constructors Union Local 31, he dedicated 36 years to his trade before retiring with the respect of his peers and the admiration of loved ones.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Gene found joy in hunting, fishing and the peace of nature. He was never happier than during family gatherings, cheering on the Houston Astros, or spending time with those he held dear.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mei Bingham; his brothers Donnie Joe Bingham and Wilbur Ray Bingham; and his sister Missy Sue Bingham. He leaves behind five children—Stacie, Charles, Alison, Dennis and Kathy—twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
To know Gene was to love him. His kind spirit, steady presence, and big-hearted nature left a mark on every soul he touched. His memory will live on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the stories told around the table, and the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
He was appreciated in life and will be missed beyond words.
A Celebration of Life Service for Charles will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
