Charles Arthur Davenport was called to his Heavenly Father and passed away peacefully at home and in his sleep on September 4, 2015. He was born in Houston, Tx on April 5, 1939 to Charles Archie and Delores Mary Davenport. His joyful personality and sincere feelings for all will be forever missed. Charles had two brothers, Burt Morris and James Richard Davenport, who have both passed away. He attended St. Rose of Lima elementary school and was very proud to have attended St. Thomas High School where he played football. He was always fond of anything St. Thomas has on the calendar. Father Dan Warden, a fellow classmate, will be performing Charles’ funeral service. This is the way Charles would have wanted his services to be handled.
He spent most of his working years in route sales (bread and beer) before eventually retiring from Mrs. Baird’s Bakery. Although he never liked the hours, he always enjoyed the daily interaction with his customers.
Charles is survived by his son Thomas E Davenport and wife Kelly; granddaughters Kristen and Allison, and many other relatives who were all dear to him (Stella Pruitt, Jean & Jack Baxter, Leonard & Ella Bench). Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife Louise (06/2013) and son David (06/2014). Although Charles struggled with both of these losses, I do believe he was recently able to find peace within. He enjoyed spending time with his son and granddaughters at the lake, visiting with friends (Brian & Dena Robb, Moose Overla, Dean Ford, and Charlie & VernaAnn Jozwiak), playing cards with truly special friends (Betty Poehl & Patsie Smith), attending car shows with his “car buddies” (Doug Gavin, Bob Nozer, Bill Morris, and Marty55), meeting with his St. Thomas classmates for luncheons, and sitting in the backyard listening to “Doo Wop” music with his neighbors (Tommy and Kristen).
He was very patriotic person and loved his country. He was a Marine and was proud to have been one. Semper Fi.
Other than his two granddaughters, his pride and joy was his ’56 Crown Victoria. He spent many a day just polishing her to a pristine shine. He enjoyed entering her in car shows and meeting new “car buddies” and was always ready to take anyone out to the garage to show her off. Charles was also an avid football fan. He enjoyed watching his Texans and anything which included Texas A&M. Gig ’em Ags!
Per Charles last wishes, his son David’s ashes will be buried next to him and Louise. This will be performed at the same time as Charles in laid to rest.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm, Sunday, September 13, 2015 with Rosary at 7:00pm at Pat H. Foley & Company.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Monday, September 14, 2015, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, Houston, Texas 77018.
Interment will be at Forest Park Westheimer, Houston, Texas 77077.
