

Charles Martinez Sr., aged 75, of Cypress Texas, passed away August 14, 2021. Charles was born January 19, 1946 to Gonzalo and Altagracia Martinez in Huntsville, Texas. Prior to graduation from high school Charles completed basic training for the United States Navy. Upon graduation from Huntsville High School in 1965 Charles began his 32 year Naval Career. During his time in the Navy and Naval Reserves Charles was able to masterfully merge his skills obtained through his time in the service and his civilian career.
Charles became a specialist for all things electric and engineering and was able to use his skills to serve on the USS Randolph, USS Okinawa, USS Schofield, USS Constellation, USS Lexington, and finally the USS Kitty Hawk. Charles retired from his civilian career at TU Electric in 1992 and the United States Navy in 1996.
Following his time spent in his first career he went into refrigeration at Hightower Electric in Arlington. Finally in 2007 Charles retired to Cypress to be the best Papa in the universe working wherever his beloved granddaughter, Briley, would be. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion, and a 32° Scottish Rite Freemason and Shriner. Charles is survived by his siblings Richard, Rosemary, Martha, Lydia, and Joe. He is also survived by his three children: Denise Martinez; Lillian (David) Grissom, Charles (Mallory) Martinez II, and grandchildren Briley and Charles III.
Charles’ memorial service will be held at The Houston National Cemetery on Friday September 3rd, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.
