Charles was born on February 28, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. Charles loved the outdoors. As a young man, he was an avid duck hunter and loved to fish the lakes of the northern Midwest. During his senior year in high school, he left to serve his country in the 2nd Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater, Saipan and regions of the Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa, then occupied Japan during World War II.
Upon returning from the war, he was able to complete his senior year of high school and went on to attend the Lewis College of Science and Technology, where he was the student body president of the class of 1952 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked in retail with a focus in men’s apparel and textiles and later became a small business owner in Dayton and Hamilton, Ohio. When not working, Charles spent his evenings teaching marketing at Miami-Jacobs Junior College in Dayton, Ohio. He was a devoted father, grandfather and veteran and will be greatly missed.
