Charles Routt

Charles Routt was born on January 13, 1951, to parents; Irene Holmes-Routt & Eddie Routt Sr., he was the youngest of four children, in Houston, TX, where he attended Gregory Elementary School and R.G. Lockett Middle School.

Charles accepted Christ at an early age and with the guidance of his mother, he was passionate about his love for the Lord, upon later years he joined Sugar Land Church of Christ where he remained a faithful member until his untimely death.

Charles worked for over 42 years as a certified/licensed mechanic at CenterPoint Energy before the name changed from The Houston Lighting & Power Co. (HL&P) where he was a proud employee and became longtime friends with some great guys.

Charles union to Brenda Torrence produced his 1st son, Renrick Charles Routt on Aug. 31,1971.

Where; Charles later met & married Cozette Marshall on August 23, 1984, and to this union a 2nd son, Eric Dwayne Routt and his only daughter, Shausta S. Routt. Alone with being a dedicated family man, he showed so much love for his friends & family members; there was those nieces & nephews who he had a hand at rearing before their preteen years (they jokingly referred to him as Uncle/Daddy), he was an avid traveler who loved exploring the world, particularly from the deck of a cruise ship alongside his beloved wife, loved telling the stories of his adventures, as well as, how life was in the good old days. Some people missed out on his invitations to fellowship with him at his church, as he would always extend the invitation.

On March 8, 2026, Charles Routt departed this life. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Eddie Routt Jr, sister Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Routt-Riley and a half sister Edna Jean Routt, alone with other family members he cherished.

Charles leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife Cozette Routt, three children, Renrick Routt (Amy) of Denver Co, Eric Routt and Shausta Routt of Missouri City/Houston TX area, granddaughters, Brenique Castillo-Routt & Natalia Elise Routt, grandsons, Renrick Jr & Evren Routt; beloved sister- Ilene Routt-Banks, nieces, Andrea Routt, Demita Routt-Fisher(LeRoy), Cheritha Routt-House, Margret Riley, nephews, Autry Routt(Tonya), Gary Banks(Kim), David Routt, and a host of other family & friends all of Houston surrounding areas & beyond.
