While her betrothed honorably served his country during the Viet Nam war (U.S.Army), Charlotte worked as a pharmacy clerk and attended cosmetology school. Upon completion of his service, Albert returned to Indiana, they married, and made their home in East Chicago. Charlotte was a homemaker and Sunday school teacher and once her children reached their teenage years she returned to the workforce as a physician's assistant in the practice of Dr. Harry Shulruff (deceased.)
After relocation to Texas and retirement, both Albert and Charlotte found fulfilling second careers at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church in Houston where they worked and attended services as parishioners for over twenty years.
Charlotte loved baseball, swimming, traveling and watching old movies as well as newer classics by Mel Brooks and Jackie Chan. She was a great cook and hostess and her table was the hub around which all family and friends gathered; no matter how large the guest list she was always happy to make room for one more. Her collection of family recipes was among the most treasured gifts that she bestowed on family and friends. They still use her recipes as a way to celebrate her culture and heritage. Charlotte especially enjoyed her retirement to a warmer climate and in her later years, she loved to sing and dance.
