He is survived by his son, Adam, his loving mother, Phyllis, his sisters Julie and husband Andy Sallee, Kay-Kay and husband Peter Tolsma, and four nieces and nephews: Ella, Andrew, Anna Kate, and Peter.
Chris was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and was an avid outdoorsman! Whether fishing in local Texas waterways and Galveston Bay or hunting along the Bayous, woodlands, or ranches, Chris was an outdoorsman through and through. More than that, he was highly accomplished in his knowledge of firearms, vintage watches/clocks, and vintage automobiles, all of which he had a passion for, and was often sought after for his expertise! He was gifted in sculpting (wildlife) and scrimshaw. Chris was active in the oil industry in Texas, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Saudi Arabia. He was excited about and just a month shy of embarking on a new vision as a co-founder of a men’s athletic wear line, 2oceans. This endeavor benefits Foster and at-risk Children, as Chris had a heart for needy children. Chris had a gift for connecting with people. He could talk with anyone, and his endless curiosity and knowledge made every conversation meaningful. No matter who he was with, Chris always found a way to relate to others and make them feel understood.
Chris loved his family and was extremely proud of his son, Adam. He loved taking his nephew to hockey tournaments and joining the hockey team family, where they called him “Uncle Chris”. He loved his niece and attended an Alabama football game with her, cracking up at all the game-day dress. Chris enjoyed living in Houston and Nashville, grilling, and having crawfish boils with his brother-in-law and family. He loved spending time in Galveston with his younger niece Anna Kate and nephew Peter, running the beach, catching ghost crabs at sunset. Early on, Chris and sister Julie often fished Galveston Bay. He loved the ocean and everything about it!
Chris graduated from Memorial High School in Houston and attended Texas A&M and Lee University.
Chris loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now with his Father in heaven. He had a keen spiritual awareness of his heavenly Father’s Presence! His family loved Chris and he will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Gary Weiler Garrett; his Paternal Grandfather, Robert Oliver Garrett; his Paternal grandmother, Dorothy Weiler Garrett; his Maternal Grandfather, Esco Benton, Sr.; and his Maternal Grandmother, Margaret Rigamer Benton.
