Chris gave us thirty-one beautiful years. Born with an interstitial lung disease, now known as COPA Syndrome, Chris endured two double-lung transplants to live. It was a difficult life living with a chronic disease, but Chris found reasons to live and fight. His dream was to become a film director, and he was pursuing a degree that would allow him to do so. Chris’s passions included his dogs, cars, writing, music, and gaming. The most significant talent Chris possessed was loving those around him. Chris’s inner circle was tight. He loved his mother Molly most of all and his dog Trooper. The inner circle of deep love and respect included his father Chuck, his Gma Myrna, his brother and very best friend Dru and his wife Maelyn, his cousins Jacob, Paige, Abby, and Jilly. Chris’s love extended to his large family, including his birth father Rondel Towe, wife Raga, sisters Anya and Fallon, and brother Reily, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
It is hard to fathom the life of pain Chris managed on a daily basis, but he would want us to be thankful and enjoy each day. Chris, in his many endeavors, authored a book titled The Journal of Melancholy hoping that others going through difficult life issues could find comfort in the fact that they aren’t alone. We have much to learn from Chris as he shared his wit, expert advice, and copious sarcasm unto us. Chris always kept what was shared with him in confidence. He loved without judgment, accepting all humanity.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses that have been a part of his journey especially Dr. Bela Patel who we could call at any time day or night, and The Cleveland Clinic staff where they made each visit as easy as possible and took on a Chris’s difficult medical case, since so much was and still is unknown about COPA Syndrome.
In Chris’s memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to COPA Syndrome Foundation to further educational medical research, or Cleveland Clincs “The Breath of Life Program” that was founded in honor of Chris. A package will be given to each new lung transplant patient to detail life with chronic rejection in lung transplants.
