Clyde was born in Winedale, TX, on May 13, 1934. He grew up in the Winedale area and graduated from Burton High School in 1952. He attended Blinn College and later the University of Houston. Clyde was called into active duty with the U.S. Army in 1957. Upon his return, he continued his night school courses and earned his degree in accounting from UH in 1966.
Prior to going into the Army, Clyde met Delores Althaus when double-dating with Delores’s older brother E.G. The rest was history. Although his military service delayed the engagement, they were married on September 26, 1959. They resided in Houston where they raised three children- Gary, Bruce, and Donna.
Clyde worked for three different companies during his career- Texas Transport & Terminal, Jim Doyle Steel Company, which became Chromalloy Corp., and Jake’s Finer Foods from which he retired in 2001.
Clyde is remembered as a kind and gentle man. Always giving, always teaching. His greatest loves were God and his family. He also loved music and baseball. He enjoyed many types of music and was self-taught on the violin. He played baseball as a teen and later coached his two sons through Little League and Pony League. Clyde adored his grandchildren and bragged about them frequently.
Strong in his faith, Clyde was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Houston for over 62 years and served in many capacities. For most of his 62 years of membership, Clyde was serving in a role at the church. He was also involved in many organizations- the Timber Oaks Investment Association, Shepherd Forest Civics Club, Zion’s Men in Mission, and The Gathering to name a few. Clyde was a giver.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; son Gary and wife Krystal; son Bruce and wife Sheila; daughter Donna and husband Arman; grandchildren Shelby/Anthony Liles, Mandy/Chance Petersen, Brandon/Alexandrea Muske, Alex, Lauren and Amber Prescott; and great-grandchildren Liam Petersen and Noah Muske.
