

C. D. (Barney) Ross died on May 13, 2012 at the age of 80. He was born on June 5, 1931 to Clyde D. and Claudine Singleton Ross in Cedar Grove, Tennessee. He left Tennessee to serve in the United States Air Force in the 1950’s and, subsequent to his discharge, moved to Houston. In 1966, he married Ruby Hall and they enjoyed a forty-four year marriage. Barney was the consummate businessman, and Houston provided for his talents fertile ground. In 1973, he started Automated Valve and Control and served as CEO of the firm for 35 years until his retirement in 2010. His reputation in the valve automation industry is as an innovator and expert both nationally and internationally. In addition to his professional success, Barney will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, and dedication to his family and friends. He and Ruby spent their free time as genial and generous hosts and as world travelers. Barney is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby, his brother, Joseph Ross, and two grandchildren, Amy and Elizabeth Ross. He is survived by his son Michael Ross and wife Gayle, their son, J. R, and their daughter Brooke; and son Donald Ross and his daughter Holly and sons Daniel and David. He is also survived by siblings Bob, David, and Rachael; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston 77030. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, and the funeral at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 17 . Both the viewing and the service will be held at Forest Park Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road.
