Larry, remember when I painted a blue Santa for Conny and everyone harassed her that Santa wasn’t blue but red? She loved BLUE! After Christmas is many colors! Many countries have their own renditions of him!

I am forever grateful for the loving friendship of Connie which began at LSU and continued to grow throughout these many years.  Our lives separated after college through occupation and  residence changes but our Sigma Chi husbands kept in touch.  Ten years after college, moving back to Baton Rouge, we lived in the same neighborhood with our growing families and enjoyed precious special times together.  I realized then that Connie exemplified what God meant when he introduced a perfect lady;   she was the "go to lady" for many things --plans to be made, refreshments to be served, child care, motherhood, etc.  I am grieving the loss of Connie's beautiful life and our long friendship which were kept alive through many personal visits and then frequent weekly telephone calls through these later years.   I will miss her greatly and I treasure the memories.

Mr Larry, Lisa, Suzanne & Bo, I am so very sorry about Mrs. Connie.  She was such an amazing lady and led an extraordinary life!!  I know your hearts all have a piece missing now and I will send prayers up for all of you!  I know she is watching over all of you now. We are extremely grieved to learn of Connie’s passing.  Absence of a life so well lived leaves a huge void in our lives .  A valued friend of many years will be sorely missed.  Words are inadequate to truly  express  our deep sorrow for this loss.  Our weekends will be permanently altered without the humor and fellowship we shared with Connie and BL almost every Friday (or Saturday and at other times and are our fondest memories. We remember all the family time together, and combined family Mother’s Day celebrations.  She was a perfect host with every detail in mind. She welcomed us with open arms, and celebrated Liam and Aidan’s milestones. We were honored to join in games and delicious meals and desserts made by her. She made everything seem effortless. The Sweeney Family loves the Champagnes. We are praying for each of you as you navigate the pain of her passing.  Connie lives in our hearts forever. A true angel. 

Larry and family, I will all always have wonderful sweet memories when we were neighbors in Pensacola, Fl.  Our kids growing up together, beach days, fishing off the Pensacola Pier, building a fort,
cooking together and just being one big family.  Those were best years ever!! Connie perfect mom, wife,  special friend and neighbor. Always a beautiful smile and loving.  If you knew her you would know her worth!! Will miss her my love and prayers to you, Lisa, Suzanne,  Beau and families!  Connie is an Angel with  God Our Heavenly Father!

My heart is still aching over the loss of my dear friend.
We had so many good memories. Laughing all the time, making crafts together, exchanging recipes, Going to exercise classes then stopping on the way home to buy donuts.
So many more fun memories I just can’t remember them all. You will forever be in my heart.

Connie was the best mother-in-law a girl could ask for…..a second Mother to me.
I felt like I was part of the family long before Beau and I married.
We would spend  many a Sunday family dinner with Connie and Larry. She was always the consummate hostess and had impeccable manners, the Southern Belle kind…so bring your manners and don’t be late for dinner!! (Which I was…so she started telling me a start time of 30 mins earlier so I wouldn’t be late!)

I loved our private chats during breakfast or dinners when we could talk about nothing and everything, including current events and politics.  
Every birthday she invited me over for a nice dinner and cake. This past February she made my favorite of hers, homemade Texas Chocolate Sheet cake…sadly it would be the last one.  
We shared the same love of shopping so that was easily one of the frequent outings we took together on the weekends.  I loved that she decorated for every holiday during the year, including Mardi Gras!  Christmas at her house was full with tradition- decorations, good food and fun game activities!  I finally was “allowed” to host a few…and I went all out to make it as good as hers!
She didn’t like dogs much but she welcomed ours (Jacques, Gigi, Coco) into the family…..on the condition they sat on their designated blanket (not the couch) and didn’t smell!!
You will be greatly missed.   May you Rest In Peace with the Angels Connie.

We have so many wonderful memories of our time together in Westminster enjoying the friends in the  neighborhood,  the school and the pool and tennis courts. Connie was everything everyone has said. A good friend. I remember her love of blue. I painted her a Santa with baby Jesus and I painted Santa blue….family really let her know it wasn’t correct. But she loved blue.  She will be sorely missed.

Connie always felt like our grandmother when she would babysit myself and my two brothers growing up in Midland.  I have many fond memories of playing dress up with her and Larry's old clothes, playing board games at her house and even Lisa screaming that there was a bear in their backyard when it was actually just a big black dog.  She was a big part of our lives while they lived in Midland and we  all cherish those memories.

We are so blessed to have met this beautiful soul and will cherish the  great memories filled with fun and laughter.

Before moving to Texas I did not know what a Southern lady was. Then I met Connie and now I know. I am so happy to have known you and all your wonderful family. Thanks for all the memories. I loved our bike rides with you and my son on the back of my bike. You were like Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart in one. You tried to teach me how to make pralines. Yours were always better! I love you and will miss you. There is certainly a new Angel in heaven.

I will never forget our visit to your place a few years ago and how gracious a host she was opening your home to us and making us feel  welcome.  Her  fabulous home cooking and reminiscing of our friendship over the years.  I remember my calls to you when you would be out  and Connie would fill me in with the latest news of you and the family and likewise want to hear of my family.  I will miss her dearly.

After our granddaughter Valerie Jean Grabill graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Ballet, she was selected to perform with the Houston Ballet. We immediately thought of Connie and Larry to look out for her well being. She later told us it was like having another Mon and Dad and always referred to them as "Cousin Connie" and "Cousin Larry". We are eternally grateful for their kindness and thoughtfulness.   Wilson Grabill

One of my favorite memories of Connie, is the care she took and delight she  received from decorating her Christmas tree. Every year she would tell a story of the ornament I would touch. I will miss our many conversations and my dear sweet friend and neighbor.

The Frisbie family met Connie and Larry in 1988 in Midland, TX. They quickly became treasured members of our family as they lived two doors from us on a cul-de-sac. We quickly learned Connie was a truly great cook. Living in West Texas, we knew nothing about  Cajun food but Connie taught us all about delicious dishes such as roux, red beans and rice, gumbo and étouffée. Connie was also our "neighborhood party planner"with lots of events for the children and adults on the block. Everyone loved Connie and Larry! As Connie  and Larry loved to dance, she always kept us informed when there was an upcoming dance.  And to show her willingness to do almost anything, she even went camping with the neighbors at the Monahans Sand Dunes State Park.   
Connie's beautiful spirit was evident during the time Betty was working on her graduate degree in Lubbock at Texas Tech. She (and Lisa) entertained our 3 kids who were 7, 5, and 3--even when Charles had a case of strep throat. The children all loved playing with her as she  was just like a loving grandmother to them. As adults, all three of our children  wanted to be sure Connie and Larry received invitations to their weddings. 
Connie was a true Southern Belle with a genteel manner, soft spoken, but with a bit of sassiness. She was a proud LSU Golden Girl and we have no doubt she was a great representative of the university. 
When we lived in Houston from 2004-2011, we had the pleasure to again see Connie and Larry, even though we lived about an hour apart. After we moved to Lubbock in 2011, we still managed to see them at least once a year when we traveled to Houston. Due to COVID we did not have the opportunity to do so and we truly missed seeing them.
Writing this has brought back a flood of great memories for us and we are so thankful to have had Connie Champagne in our lives. She touched so many who could not help but love her. We miss her tremendously.

There was nothing pretentious about Connie, she was who she was. I will miss our strong discussions on political issues, we were 100% in agreement, trying to get Larry on board was another challenge. Connie had a great sense of humor and always made people welcome in her presence, RIP Connie.

I will never forget the quick and genuine smile, the engaging personality, and wonderful feeling you are left with after such an engagement. I will miss her beautiful smile and especially her infectious laugh! She always had a kind heart and loving spirit and I will miss her so very much. I'm so grateful that I did get to spend a few days with her and my Uncle Larry when they were at my dad's and stepmother's house while they were here for Lisa and Robert's wedding celebration. 

My wonderful mom was taken to heaven Thursday. She was a devoted and loving wife to my father and would have made 60 years together this September and were high school and college sweethearts.  My siblings and I only knew her as Mommy, Momma and then Mom. She was an  amazing mom, grandma, great grandma and a good friend to many. She had a great family and childhood in Baton Rouge, went to St. Josephs Academy and  graduated from LSU where she was a Sigma Chi Sweetheart and one of the first Golden Girls for the LSU Tigers.  She worked hard raising a beautiful family and always being the perfect host, Brownie leader, room mother, or anything involving our school. She loved her La. Roots but became a True Texan in the late 70s.  She enjoyed volunteer work, puzzles, coffee club, decorating, the Hallmark Channel, ice-cream and 50s music. Always decorating, setting the perfect table, always ironed and pressed, even tshirts, always there for us. 
What happens when the rock of the family is gone. It’s just pebbles left. Who do I ask cooking and hostessing questions to? Who do I watch Hallmark Christmas movies and Dateline with? Who do I call three times a week to vent to? Who do I cry to?

My heart is forever broken. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. I love you Momma. 

Having shared a lifetime of memories, I will miss her sense of humor, her kindness that was shown to everyone and her excitement for LSU sports. she would often call after a game to rehash the plays. She was my comrade-in-arms in discussions on current events.
May she rest in peace.

We shared many things over the past 40 years. How could we have known that April 12,2022 would be the last time we saw each other and that May 28, 2022 would be our last telephone conversation. I will miss my sister-in-law that made me feel like we were sisters. Rest easy in God's arms.

I don’t have a favorite because every memory that I have is my favorite. Connie was my favorite southern bell I will miss her terribly God speed sweet Connie.
