

Consuelo Mejia Salazar, 86, of Houston, Texas went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 26, 2013. She was born on November 14, 1926 in Galveston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her former spouse, Lino Salazar; beloved parents Jesus & Ricarda Mejia; and brother, Jesus “Chuy” Mejia, Jr. Consuelo is survived by one sister, Alicia M. Rodriguez and husband, Chacho. Her five surviving children are Mario Robert “Bobby”, Yolanda S. Hernandez and husband Lupe, Richard “Ricky”, Alfred “Freddy” and wife Imelda, and Rose “Rosie” Salazar.
Consuelo, lovingly referred to by her loving friends as Chelo or Connie, immensely enjoyed church fellowship, singing in the church choir, playing piano, tending to her beautiful rose bushes, affectionately whipping up delicious meals for anyone who “popped in” for a visit, and of course, doting on her grown children and grandchildren.
Grandchildren include Spencer R. Herrera and wife, Jessica; Sergio L. Herrera; Christina Salazar Cantu and husband, Alex; Laura Salazar Hough and husband, Neil; Jamie Lynn Salazar; and Eric James Salazar.
Great-grandchildren include Samantha Nicole Salazar; Alex Anthony Cantu; Chris Andrew Cantu; Sofia Catalina Herrera; and Emiliana “Emmie” Herrera; and one great-great grandchild: Elijah Wilson Morales; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and distant relatives.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 pm with a 7:00 to 8:00 pm prayer service on Thursday, February 28, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, March 1, 2013. Both will be held at Brookside Funeral Home Grand Chapel with burial to follow. Cake and refreshments will be served in the banquet hall following the burial.
