

Cynthia Russell Sturrock, 67, of Cypress, Texas, passed away on March 30, 2026. Born January 30, 1959, Cynthia was a compassionate, gentle woman whose life was defined by faithful service, steadfast love, and quiet strength.
Cindy devoted four decades to pediatric nursing and to the children and families she served. She began her career at Texas childrens in 1983 and retired in 2023. During her years there, she played a vital role in establishing the heart surgery program in POD3 of the former PICU 3rd floor west tower. Her dedication and leadership as a nurse manager helped shape the continued growth of the heart center and left a lasting impact on countless colleagues. Later, she transferred to the newborn center, where she continued to serve with the same steady commitment until retirement.
Cindy’s dedication was grounded in a strong educational foundation. She earned an Associate’s in Nursing from Houston Community College, class of 1982, and later completed a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Texas Tech University, class of 2007.
A member of Lazybrook baptist church for 20 years, Cindy was also known as a beautiful, trusted friend and confidant. She carried her compassion into every relationship—mentoring, encouraging, and caring for others with sincerity and grace.
Cindy found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of family life: family beach vacations; Christmas traditions of cookie baking and Thanksgiving meals; pouring into her grand boys, celebrating their achievements; and the quiet pleasures of raising butterflies and gardening. She also enjoyed puzzling, mentoring, and loving on her puppies, Honey and Hersheys. Her grandchildren were a deep source of pride and purpose, and her presence in their lives was a steady gift.
Cindy is survived by Husband Charles Sturrock; Son Christopher Sturrock, his wife Kimberlee Sturrock, and their children Kiptyn and Axton Sturrock; Best friend and Daughter Cady Presswood her husband Blake Presswood, and their children Brayden and Caleb Presswood; and Son Jonathon Sturrock, his wife Kelly Sturrock.
Cindy was preceded in death by her Mother, Betty Russell; Father Edwin Russell; Brother Edwin “Russ” Russell; Grandmother Cady Proctor; Her Uncle Ramsey and aunt dixie; Her Aunt J-lee and uncle Tommy; and Her mother in love Myrle Sturrock and father in love Thomas Sturrock.

Cindy was deeply devoted to mentoring and teaching nurses at all stages of their careers, taking great pride in supporting the next generation in the Heart Center and inspiring excellence. The fund will provide opportunities for bedside nurses and leaders to attend educational events, further professional growth, and enhance skills—reflecting the values Cindy lived every day.

Cindy’s faith and perspective were often reflected in words she returned to again and again: “This too shall pass. Pain is inevitable, suffering is a choice. Love is a choice. Thy will be done. Trust God. Gods in control.”
Her husband remembered her as a beautiful mother, forgiving and loving wife, compassionate and selfless—strong, brave, and nurturing.
Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Philippians 4: 6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
A Gathering will be held at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, Texas 77068, on April 17, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by A Celebration of Life from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and a Reception from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
