Daniel Scott Greninger stepped into Heaven’s Praise and Worship band on November 18, 2024, in Houston, Texas, after a brief recurrence of Hodgkins Lymphoma. His ministry, music, and service began early and continued to the end, as he dedicated his entire life to serving his Lord. Dan received many gifts from the Lord, and he was a “Good Steward of God” with those gifts in the service of his Lord Jesus Christ throughout his life.
Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, Dan’s life was a tapestry of adventure from the start. His family's frequent relocations, due to his father’s postings with the US Air Force, took him to Germany, Europe, Okinawa, Virginia, Texas, and Ohio. These early experiences instilled in him a love for exploration and diversity. He later pursued his education at Ohio University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Kentucky University.
After completing his education, Dan embarked on a journey of faith and service. He took an internship with Campus Crusade for Christ’s (now CRU) inner-city ministry, demonstrating his commitment to helping others. His dedication led him to live in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, and later, to join the CRU traveling ministry band.
He moved to Houston in the 1980s and made his career founding his own company, Advent Resource Management (www.adventaed.com), in providing life-saving devices (AEDs) and CPR training to businesses across the state.
Dan loved adventure, being outdoors, and classic cars. Hunting across Texas and the country with close friends was a highlight of his year, as were the backpacking trips to the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Rainer, and many other places with friends from across the country. For a time, Dan moved to Central Texas where he was a goat and exotic wild game farmer at Lt. Dan’s Ranch in Camp Wood, Texas. And he always had his beloved labrador retrievers in tow for many of his adventures. Dan's love for classic cars led him to drive many stylish automobiles.
For most of his life though, Dan was known for his passion for Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and shared his love for the Lord with everyone, leading praise and worship in various churches and Sunday School classes, singing and playing guitar or mandolin. Dan shared his musical gifts at Bethel Presbyterian, First Presbyterian Church, and Christ Presbyterian Church Houston (formerly CEPC), for both Berean Classes and later at First Baptist Houston.
He was a fearless evangelist and known for his million-dollar question: “Would you rather have this Million Dollar Bill or Eternal Life?” He would hand them a million-dollar bill and ask that question to almost every stranger he met. He was happy to report that most people wanted to hear him share how to receive Eternal Life through faith in Jesus Christ. Over his lifetime, he led numerous Bible studies, mentored younger men, led community groups, and taught at retirement homes. And he traveled abroad for ministry opportunities in Mexico, South Sudan, and China. In the last several years, he has served in the Chaplaincy program of the Houston Police Department and as a teacher of English as a Second Language at Christ Presbyterian Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Ret. Major Robert Royce Greninger. He is survived by his mother, Patty Lou (Parker) Greninger of Bowling Green, Kentucky, brother Brian Greninger of Richardson, and nephew Matt Greninger of Plano, and countless brothers and sisters in Christ.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 8300 Katy Freeway, Houston. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Dan’s memory to Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU at www.cru.org) or Christ Presbyterian Church of Houston.
