Our wonderful son, Daniel Blake Sides, passed away on January 16, 2024 due to complications of Type1 diabetes, in Plano, Texas. Daniel was born on August 10, 1976, in New Braunfels, Texas to his loving parents, Dan and Mary Oyler Sides.
As a child, Daniel’s love of baseball started when he was 2, but he had to wait until the age of 5 to start playing, due to a congenital heart defect, which he had surgically repaired at age 5. His Little League baseball career continued, and his team went all the way to the Little League Senior Division State Tournament in 1991. When Daniel started high school, he decided to start a new sport. Golf replaced baseball as his new passion. He was ranked #1 on his varsity golf team his senior year. Shortly after graduation, Daniel had a heart valve replacement, but was able to continue his love of golf, in which he continued to excel. Daniel received his PGA card at the age of 19 and became a teaching professional at a local Spring Branch golf course.
Golf would need to become a hobby and stress reliever, as Daniel entered the less exciting/fun business world. He took a position at a high-tech company in Houston and was promoted to a higher position at that same company in Broomfield, Colorado, where he lived for 2 years. In the early 2000’s, Daniel moved back to Texas, in Plano, where his parents lived. He left the high-tech industry to start a career in estimating and project managing, where he stayed until his death. Daniel had a great love and passion for animals, especially dogs, and he spent many hours volunteering at SPCA Second Chance, Non-Kill animal shelter in Plano.
Daniel is survived by his parents Mary and Dan Sides of Plano, sister Jennifer Werner of Plano, niece Abigail Durbin of Fort Worth, maternal uncles, Harvey Oyler III of Baytown, Billy Oyler of Seadrift, Jimmy Oyler of Houston. Maternal aunts, Laura Greene of Spring, Kathi Grier of Columbus and numerous cousins throughout the USA. Daniel is preceded in death by his sister, Stacey Kristine Sides, his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Willie Mae Willmann Oyler of Houston, his maternal uncle, Jerry Oyler of San Antonio, his paternal grandparents, Darrell and Wanoka Reynolds Sides of Athens,TN, his paternal aunt Lynette Sides Sloan of Nashville, TN and his loyal and faithful dog, Boomer.
Daniel is and will be truly missed by his family and all that knew him. His heart and compassion for all, was indeed, as big as Texas.
