

David Nevels Henry was born on December 20, 1939 in the small town of Waxia, Louisiana. He was raised by his mother, Hattie Henry and stepfather, Otis Richard Sr. He graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1959. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1969 before moving to Houston, Texas, where he soon met Vernia M. Sudds. They were married January 23, 1970.
They built a life together, raised three children, and were married for fifty-five years. David spent many years working as a Foreman for Entex Gas Company, retiring in his 50s. However, his passion was working for the Houston Astros. He was there for over 30 years, earning a championship ring in 2017 and 2022. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking for his family, but his most beloved title was
that of grandpa. He joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in July of 1997 and served in the Senior Adult Ministry, Small Group Ministry, and Greeters’ Ministry.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Hattie Henry Richard; stepfather, Otis Richard Sr, sisters, Pearl Edmond and Igatha Neal; and brothers, Lawrence Henry, Joseph Henry, and John Henry. David leaves behind countless memories to his wife, Vernia Henry; daughters, Harriet Henry, CaSandra Henry, and Tammy Knotts (Juneious); godson, Kervin Thomas; stepson, Chester Sudds; one granddaughter, Ki’Vonna Henry; two grandsons, Jaden Knotts and Joshua Knotts; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends.
A visitation for David will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Good Hope M.B.C., 3015 N. Macgregor Way, Houston, TX 77004. A funeral services will occur Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3015 N MacGregor Way, Houston, TX 77004. A committal will occur Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
