Dave leaves his beloved wife of 41 years, Patti (Gardner) Moschella. Dave was the loving father of David W. Moschella II and Lisa Marie (Moschella) Brannen, and proud grandfather of Graysenn and Colin Brannen. He also leaves behind brothers Jimmy, Johnny and Billy; his sisters Nancy and Debbie; and many nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends.
Born April 12, 1950 in Youngstown Ohio and raised in Poland, Ohio, the son of Bill and Clarice Moschella, Dave graduated from Springfield High School at the age of 17.
In his early years, Dave loved music and horses. At the age of 13 he started playing the drums in a band; The Three D’s. From there he went on to play with local bands “Johnny Holiday and the Young Loves” and “The Stepping Stones”. After graduating High School Dave enlisted in the US Marines and soon was shipped off to Camp Lejeune for training, then off to Vietnam where he served from 1968 – 1969.
Dave was a renowned mechanic, owning and operating his own successful Automobile Repair Shop in the Houston area for 23 years with his wife Patti. This was a trade Dave learned during his youth working at his father’s garage. Once diagnosed with AML, an aggressive form of Leukemia, Dave and Patti were forced to close their shop. Patti stayed by his side as his caregiver during his 15 month battle with cancer.
Mr. Moschella had a passion for animals; especially horses. He loved to ride as a boy in Ohio and later shared this love with family and friends in Texas. He was well known in the Houston area as a knowledgeable horseman and horse lover who would make room and/or care for needy horses. Dave touched the lives of many people with his caring and generosity for people and horses; he maintained his trademark love of animals to the end as a founding partner in the “Bits of Love” Horse Rescue.
The family would like to thank all those on floor 4B at the Houston VA hospital who diagnosed and treated Dave during his 15 month long battle.
Funeral services will be held August 21, 2015 at the Houston Veterans Administration Cemetery with a private burial. The family asks in lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory be donated to Dave’s horse rescue; Bits of Love Horse Rescue.
