

David Stanford Phillips, age 76, of Katy, TX, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, March 27, 2025, at his residence. He was born December 25, 1948, in Houston, TX, to the late Jess R. Phillips, Jr. and Lorraine Wessendorff Phillips.
David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Felicia Phillips; son, James Phillips and daughter-in-law Yen Vu; daughter, Laura Phillips; grandchildren, Heather Phillips, Alyssa Phillips, and Adrian Phillips; and brother, Robert Phillips and wife Betsy; nephews, Jess R Phillips, IV and Matt Phillips; Jackson Roberts; Nick Phillips and Chris Phillips.
Preceded in death by brother, Jess R. Phillips, III and sister, Lorraine “Raine” Roberts, niece, Genevieve “Jenny” Reed.
David was a celebrated soccer, football, and track star at the Kinkaid school in Houston, TX where he graduated in 1967; He attended courses at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas Christian University, and graduated with a B.A. in History at the University of Houston in 1971.
He started his wine sales career at American Wine and Importing Company, where he met his wife, Felicia. David would spend most of his career at Republic Beverage Company as a Sales Manager until his retirement, in January 2010. In retirement, David was an avid volunteer at the San Felipe de Austin State Historical Site. David enjoyed reading history and mysteries, going on day trips all around Texas, discovering facts about his ancestry, collecting toy soldiers and stamps, watching historical documentaries, crime and mystery television series, track meets, the PGA tour, college and professional basketball and football, enjoying gourmet food and drink, making people laugh, spending time with his family whom he cared for deeply.
An inurnment service is scheduled for Monday, April 28th, 2025 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home located at 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
