

He grew up in Houston and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1956. He received his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in 1960 and was immediately accepted into Southern Methodist University’s Perkin’s School of Theology. He later received a Master’s in Theology from Perkins. David was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1961 and an Elder in 1975. During his more than fifty years of work in the Church, David served in numerous congregations including; Associate Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Houston (1968-1972), Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Kountze (1972-1976), Pastor of the Kelty’s and Redland United Methodist Churches in Lufkin (1976-1979), Pastor of the Lakeview United Methodist Church in Port Arthur (1979-1985), Pastor of the Roberts Avenue United Methodist Church in Beaumont (1985-1988), and Associate Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Houston (1988-2004). He married the former Marion Elizabeth Jones on December 26, 1959 and they had four children. Marion preceded him in death on April 1, 1978. He later married the former Sandi Kay Henderson on March 7, 1997 and they resided in Pearland Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Snowden. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandi Snowden, his mother, Ellen Snowden, his two brothers, James and Phillip Snowden, his four children, Susan McLeod, Sarah Anthony, Michael Snowden, and Adam Snowden, his 6 grandchildren, Justin & Julie McLeod, Daniel & Elizabeth Anthony, Evan Davidson, and Jacob Snowden. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Brookside Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5th from 4:00-8:00 PM. A family graveside service will be held at Brookside Memorial Park on Monday morning. A public memorial service will be held on May 6th at 4:00 PM in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church Houston,1320 Main Street @ Clay Houston, TX 77002, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Paul Clines of First United Methodist Church.
