

Dawn Louise Tippee, beloved mother, wife, and sister, died March 22, 2023, of a heart attack. She was 74.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Dawn spent her early years in Struthers, Ohio, where her father was a Presbyterian minister. She attended Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., and received a degree in history from the University of Tulsa. During her college years, the family moved to Crestwood, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis.
It was in Crestwood that Dawn met Bob Tippee, who would become her husband of more than 50 years. Bob entered active duty with the U.S. Air Force soon after their wedding. During their military service, Dawn and Bob lived in Phoenix; Panama City and Tampa, Fla.; the Philippines; and Biloxi, Miss.They reentered civilian life in Tulsa, where their children were born, and moved to Houston, Tex., in 1990. Before becoming a mother, Dawn held administrative positions in retail, real estate, and mining-equipment companies. Motherhood was her priority, and she was the emotional center of her family. As Dawn’s children grew and needed less of her time, she worked as a substitute teacher.
Surviving Dawn and grieving her death, in addition to Bob, are her daughter Elizabeth Tippee, daughter Jessica Stump and son-in-law David Stump, all of Houston; sister Kae Newman and her husband Dick Newman of Annapolis, Md.; sister-in-law Nancy Ornce of Leawood, Kan.; brother-in-law John Tippee and his wife Bonnie Tippee of Rogersville, Ala.; and aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding Dawn in death are her father, the Rev. David Rowland; mother, June Rowland; son David John Tippee, who was dead at birth; and parents-in-law Howard and Mary Ellen Tippee.
