Debra H Bergeron, beloved wife and sister, lost her battle with cancer and passed away on October 20, 2018. Treasured daughter of Vera (Heape) and Arthur Henry Jr., Engineer- Army Corp of Engineers, Debbie was born in Savannah, GA on March 29, 1955. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family moved to Merritt Island, Florida when Debbie was a young girl. They loved the beach and to watch the NASA rocket launches from the beach near their home. In 1970, they moved to Mobile, AL, where she was a graduate of W.P. Davidson High School. After graduation, her first job was working as a secretary at an insurance agency. A few years later, she moved to Houston, TX and began working as Assistant to the General Manager at Standco Industries, an Oil & Gas equipment Manufacturer. She met her husband, Ted Bergeron, when he started working there in 1976. After getting married in 1979, Debbie and Ted began to travel, and while on a ski trip to Colorado, they fell in love with the whole experience. A co-worker suggested they look into joining Space City Ski Club, an organization with 1400 members that ran ski trips to exotic locations. They joined in 1983 and went on many ski trips throughout the U.S. and Europe during the next 25 years. Debbie loved it so much, she became an officer in the club and eventually Vice President of Trips, whose responsibility was to plan, organize, and market the trips and train the trip coordinators of up to 14 ski trips a year. Later, she became an officer in the Texas Ski Council, a member organization of 20 ski clubs throughout Texas. Over those many years, she and Ted developed many close friendships with other members, as well as members of other ski clubs from all over Texas who were members of the Texas Ski Council.
Her life centered on being the “Social Director” for her friends. She was always planning events, get-togethers, holiday dinners and parties, birthdays, anniversaries and especially vacations -- any reason to keep her friends together. After 25 years of skiing, Debbie asked Ted to teach her how to play golf, which was his passion. After a couple of months of lessons, she was ready to play, and then she started planning golf trips with her friends all over the U.S., Mexico, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.
Debbie loved to dance, Country & Western, Swing, & Whip. She was always the first on the dance floor. Debbie had a passion for life, always ready for a get-together with her friends.
She was also a member of the Wine Committee for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
Debbie joined Bracewell LLP (then Bracewell Patterson), a law firm in Houston, in 1978 and worked for attorneys in a wide spectrum of practices, including Oil & Gas, Real Estate, Corporate, Wills & Estates, Bankruptcy, Litigation, Non-Profit, Appellate and Finance. Since 2001, she worked for Aaron Roffwarg, who heads up the firm’s Real Estate & Infrastructure practice. Debbie began her career there working for Hal DeMoss in 1978, who was Section Head of the Real Estate Section. When Hal left the firm in 1990 after being appointed a Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge by President Bush, he asked Debbie to join him at the Fifth Circuit. She was very flattered at the time, but she decided to remain at Bracewell. October 2018 was her 40th anniversary at the firm. Among several other attorneys, Debbie also worked for Gray Muzzy, Michael Hopkins, Adam Dempsey, Jeffrey Gilbert and Carlton Wilde.
She attained certifications through NALS as a Professional Legal Secretary in 2006 and as a Professional Paralegal in 2007.
Debbie and Ted met and lived together in Houston for their entire married life and were going to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in March of 2019.
Left to honor and cherish Debbie’s memory is her loving and devoted husband, Ted; sisters Lisa and Marsha; nephews Robert and Brandon, and great nieces and nephews.
Debbie enriched and lifted the lives of everyone she met. She genuinely cared for others more than herself. Her smile, enthusiasm, drive, love, and friendship will be truly missed.
