Delice was affectionately known as DaeDae, Mammie, Mommie, Mom, Grandma, Ms. D, and Big head. She was born in St Lucia to Alexandrine and Matthew Paul George. She was the second of 12 children: six boys and six girls. At 17, Delice moved to London, England. She promised her godfather she would go to school for nursing, but she felt a duty to help her parents. There she met her ex-husband, Ernest Dornelly, and had three beautiful children: Murray Lloyd Dornelly, the golden boy, Patricia Dornelly Collins, aka the favorite and Sharon Angela Dornelly, the baby. She lived in London for 20 years then moved to St Thomas, USVI to be closer to her aging parents. A little over three years later, Delice moved to La Porte, Texas. She worked tirelessly to support her children and eventually found a home at Boys and Girls Harbor. She was an excellent Head Cook there for 27 years and loved by all. Anytime a child returned, Big head was one of the first ones they would look for. Boy do we miss her cooking!
Delice Dornelly is remembered with love by her three devoted children: Murray Lloyd Dornelly and his wife Angela Rocha Dornelly, Patricia Dornelly Collins and her husband Randy Collins, Sr, and Sharon Angela Dornelly. Eight beautiful grandchildren: Matthew Deon Cowins, William Lloyd Dornelly, Brandy Sharell Fabian and her husband Nathan Allen Fabian, Anthony Lee Dornelly, Randy Collins, Jr, Marcus Dwayne Collins, Martin Ernest Dornelly, and Brandon Clyde Collins. Six loving great-grandchildren: Asyia Grace Cowins, Matthew Mark Cowins, Abby Nicole Fabian, Aubrey Alyse Fabian, Ariah Marie Fabian, and Denver Beaux Cowins. Eight doting siblings: Henry George, Cyrille George, Peter George, Josephine George Philip, Mary George Joseph, Ignatius “Percy” George, Andrew “John” George, Calixta George Loctor and her sidekick, Velma Ruth Walker. She is preceded in death by her parents: Matthew Paul George, Alexandrine Dolor George, and three siblings: Pancratius “Gratius” George, Nicholina Paul Julian, and Catherine Paul Jacobs.
While we decided not to have a funeral nor memorial, we treasure the outpouring of love. The prayers, text messages, calls, visits, cards, flowers, and food, mean so much to each of us. Though we miss her immensely, we are comforted that she is in heaven, with her Lord and Savior.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crespofuneralhomebroadway.com for the Dornelly family.
