Dessie Sublett Cowherd, Jr. of Houston, Texas, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on December 31, 2015. His unwavering faith, abiding hope, and love of family were his constant source of sustenance and joy through his life journey.
Dess was born September 19, 1925 in Adair County, Kentucky and grew up in Louisville. He graduated from Army Air Forces Flight Engineer School at Hondo, Texas in 1945. He met the love of his life, Virginia Lee, while he was in pharmacy school at the University of Texas. They married February 1, 1948 and their 65 years together will forever shine as a legacy of love and commitment in the eyes of their children, eight (8) grandchildren and four (4) great-grandchildren.
In addition to his life as a loving husband and father, he enjoyed his career as a pharmacist for over 50 years, then retired at age 84 to care for Virginia at home. Dess was an avid game player and enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and traveling with Virginia. Dess was a man of incredible patience, overflowing generosity and unconditional love. His Hollywood smile, dry sense of humor and contagious laughter will be greatly missed.
Dess is welcomed into Heaven eternal by his parents Maggie and Dessie Cowherd; Step-Mother, Ruth Cowherd; his son, James Lee Cowherd; his grandson, Mathew Travis Badger and beloved wife, Virginia Lee Cowherd.
He will be remembered in spirit by his daughters, Carol West, of Houston; Debra Badger, of San Antonio; and Sharon Walker, of Houston.
