With a heart for serving others, Diane enrolled into Bronx Community College and received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing in 1976. She then moved on to earn the status of a Registered Nurse, RN-C. She went on to enjoy a long fulfilling career in Nursing spanning over 40 years until she retired.
“Di”, as she was affectionately called, fellowshipped with a “Circle of Diva” friends, where they enjoyed traveling and with whom she gracefully coordinated fabulous gatherings and dinner parties. On December 8, 1991, she married her soul mate and beloved, Douglas Tarver and they enjoyed 28 years of marital joy, adventure, and bliss, before her passing.
Diane loved her family, unapologetically. She was known for calling to check on them, sharing insightful advice and correction or sending out periodic text messages to let them know that she loved them and that she was thinking about them. Of course, all of this took place in between the times that she spoiled her grandsons with an endless supply of affection and love.
On Friday, March 29, 2019, she answered her ultimate call and join the ranks of heaven’s choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, her Uncles; Charles, Theodore, Jr., and Robert Dalton, and her Aunt Ozzie Charlene Dalton Robinson; and her brother, Quincey Alphonza Dalton, Jr.
She leaves behind a loving family who strives to follow her example of a fully lived life in her joyful uncompromising fashion; her adoring husband, Herman Douglas Tarver; two sisters, Renee Daniels (Reverend Gerald, Sr.) and Brenda “Peaches” Dalton-Williams (Darnell); one brother, Bruce Dalton (Jackie); her daughter, Tanya Porter Hodges (Rickey); her son, Robert Johnson; two grandsons, Dante Porter and Quincy Porter; four aunts, Alberta (Walter, d.) Henderson, Frances (Robert, d.) Dalton, Nell (Theodore, d.) Dalton Johnson, and Alethea Elaine Dorsey; 16 first cousins; four nieces and four nephews; and one grand-nephew and one grand-niece. A host of other family members and dearly beloved friends. And her fluffy special companion, China.
