

Dick Barlow passed away peacefully, with loved ones, on Wednesday, the 14th of August 2013. He was 96 years old. Dick was born in the Greenwich Village area of New York City on the 28th of February 1917. He was the second of three sons born to Nina and Salvatore DiBona, and was baptized Clement DiBona.
A humble man, he was blessed with many talents. From childhood he displayed a natural artistic and musical ability which he pursued and thrived on throughout his life.
Dick enjoyed a long and successful musical career spanning 72 years. Dick Barlow and his orchestra provided musical pleasure in many of the finest clubs and hotels in the country. From Ciro’s and the Warwick in New York City, the Top of the Strip at the Dunes in Las Vegas, to the St. Francis in San Francisco. Dick spent most of the last 30 years of his life in Texas, where many people have danced to his music at the Warwick, the Petroleum Club, and the St. Anthony Club.
Dick Barlow was also a very accomplished and collected painter. While growing up he attended both The Art Institute and Juilliard Music School in New York City. Dick sketched, drew and painted all his life. Ultimately winning many juried exhibitions, from San Francisco to New York City with his paintings. Dick has been exhibiting his drawings and paintings in many galleries and other venues in Houston for decades including the Petroleum Club. He was also a participating member of both the Water Color Art Society – Houston and Who’s Who International.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ina Fleishel DiBona; and his older brother, Dr. Joseph DiBona.
Dick is survived by his younger brother, S. Richard DiBona; his son, Charles and daughter -in-law, Sandy; his granddaughter, Marie Herzog and her husband Austin, and Nicole DiBona; his great-grandsons, Devon and Gavin Herzog.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 22nd of August, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Robert Poteet will officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Dick’s memory be directed to the Water Color Art Society – Houston, 1601 West Alabama, Houston, TX, 77006, or one’s charity of choice.
