Donnie graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Sharon Secrest on July 4, 2003.

Cook-offs benefiting children was Donnie’s passion. He won many trophies and the friendship of many cookers.
Everyone knew Donnie Schmidt “head cook of the Hole in the Wall Gang”.
He loved very deeply his wife Sharon, his daughter Megan, step son Paul and all of his grandchildren and great grandson. Donnie wasn’t real big on expressing his love to some, but somehow he made sure you knew that you were special to him and that he loved you.
Donnie’s laugh was as big as his heart which was bigger than life itself. If you got to know Donnie then you also came to love him.
