

Donald E. Smith, PE(Ret.), fondly known as D.E., died April 2, 2017. He was born in the Bronx, New York, January 8, 1926. There he met the love of his life, Joan T. Eichler, and they married on June 14, 1947. They were blessed to spend nearly 70 wonderful years together. D.E., a devoted family man, is survived by Joan, four daughters: Donna L. (Michael) McGurk, Laurie A. (Joseph) Urso, Christine S. Koury (Bruce Simon), and Jennifer J. (Dan) Walthall, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
D.E. was a Professional Engineer and his successful career with Exxon Mobil, which spanned over fifty years, took him and his family all over the world.
As part of his lifetime of service, D.E. was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight and was honored to serve as a Past Grand Knight. He always found charitable endeavors in which to invest his “time, talents and treasure”.
D. E. proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Crescent City – APA 21 during WWII and the USS Glynn – APA 239 in the Korean War. D.E. cherished his experience in the U.S. Navy and shared many of his Sea Stories with family and friends over the years.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, April 6, 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 S 4th St, Richmond, Texas 77469. Reception at Sacred Heart, immediately following Mass.
Services and interment at Houston National Cemetery.
