

Donny (Don) Betts, 58, of Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Don was born in Pensacola, Florida, to Salonie Betts and the late Lonzie Lee Betts on October 21, 1958.
He graduated from Woodham (Pensacola) High School in 1976 and went on to attend Florida State University. While at Florida State, Donny, an active member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, met the love of his life and future wife, Valerie (Val) Ward. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing in 1980. He and Valerie pledged their love for each other on April 28 ,1982 and soon relocated to Houston where they started their family.
Donny impressed the value of continuing education on his children and led by example. He obtained his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Texas Southern University as well as maintaining an instructor’s license from TCLEOSE and a realtor’s license. A Certified Fraud Examiner, Donny served the state as the assistant Regional Supervisor of Audit and Investigations at the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC). He was a dedicated employee of the TABC and well-respected by peers and co-workers.
Donny was a devoted husband and father who taught his children the importance of never making excuses, saying, “Excuses are monuments of nothingness.” His favorite minister was Joel Osteen and he loved the song “I Won’t Complain.” Donny’s passing has left a huge void in the hearts of all who loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Valerie Betts, Houston, TX, two Sons: Donaldson (Tammie) Betts, Houston, TX and Darrious Betts, Houston, TX. Daughter: Paige Betts, Houston, TX; Mother: Salonie Betts, Pensacola, FL; two Brothers, Elder Jimmy (Barbara) Betts of Orlando, FL and Darryl (Vickie) Betts of Pensacola, FL and a Sister, Elder Dorothy (Eddie) Moorer; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
