

Doris Marie Garrett, of Tomball, Texas passed from this life on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Harvest Home Assistant Living Facility in Tomball. She was 74. She was born on May 01, 1943 in Galveston, Texas and was raised in the Denver Harbor area of Houston by parents Archie Scott and Gladys Marie Williams. She graduated from Austin High School in 1961 and that same year married her high school sweetheart, J.W. Garrett. Together they raised two children, Kelly Marie and Jay Scott.
Doris worked in the Public Works department for the City of Houston for 34 years. She served several mayors including Louis Cutrer, Louie Welch, Fred Hofheinz, Jim McConn, Kathy Whitmire, and retired from the city under Bob Lanier.
She was very active in her children’s’ activities, serving on several little leagues governing boards and served as the charter president of the Klein Oak High School FFA Booster Club.
Doris never met a stranger and was devoted to her family. She was dedicated to her grandchildren as they were truly the “lights of her life!” She drove her children and grand-children to many sports practices, baseball games, dance recitals, gym meets, etc. As a matter of fact, she has several friends she met in the numerous car pools she drove!
Doris is survived by her daughter, Kelly Hill and husband Bobby, her granddaughters Landry Marie and Keaton Grace Hill and her grandson Jackson Wyatt Hill, all of Tomball, TX. Sister-in-Laws Evelyn Garrett-Bledsoe of Chandler, TX and Pat Hayes and husband Tim of Richmond, TX. Brother-in-Laws Gene Garrett and wife Linda of Spearfish, SD and Larry Garrett and wife Faye of Albuquerque, NM.
Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband J.W. Garrett, parents Archie and Gladys Williams; and her son Jay Scott Garrett.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Family Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home followed with a burial in Brookside Memorial Park.
