

Doris was born in Hamlin, Texas to Myrtle Barnes Cassle and James Albert Cassle. She grew up in Rule, Texas, graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, and then taught school for several years. In 1941, she married Ruskin Smith, and in 1948, they moved to Houston where Ruskin was in the automobile business for many years. A dedicated Christian, Doris was actively involved with River Oaks Baptist Church from 1954 until her death. She enjoyed reading, playing Bridge, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. She especially loved her family who will miss her greatly.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years and by her sister, Juanita Bone. She is survived by her three daughters, Elaine Swenson and her husband, Stephen; Sarah Bell; and Lisa Pierson and her husband, Bill; her four grandchildren, John Bell and his wife, Nikki; Cynthia Bell Smith and her husband, Brian; Sarah Elaine Pierson; and Katherine Pierson, as well as four great grandchildren, Hank Smith, Ruskin Bell, Edith Bell, and Finn Smith; her brother, James Cassle and his wife, Mickey; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 9th of September, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
All are invited to gather with the family for the interment service to be conducted at half-past twelve o’clock on Saturday, the 10th of September, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road in Houston.
The memorial service is to follow at two o’clock in the afternoon, also on Saturday, at River Oaks Baptist Church, 2300 Willowick Road in Houston, where Rev. Martus Miley, Pastor, is to officiate.
