Doris LaVerne Sumrow, 89, of Humble, TX, entered eternal rest on May 6, 2025. She was born August 12, 1935, in Cisco, TX to James W. & Velma Foster. She met “Jim” Sumrow in Mingus, TX and they later married July 28, 1951. Doris worked in logistics management at a family-owned Texas Proud Transportation company for 30+ years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She loved researching the family’s genealogy and being apart of the WPBA Bowling Association.
Doris was one of a kind. She thought she was Queen Elizabeth. Hardheaded, thoughtful, and loved hard in her own way. She married well and built a life that she couldn’t have imagined as a little girl. Years ago, she was asked if she knew Jesus Christ as her Savior? Her reply, “Yes, I do. And I couldn’t have made it to this point in my life if I didn’t.”
Doris was an AVID bowler for years and never missed! The family joked at times- Don’t get sick or die on bowling night because you would just have to wait! She loved family get togethers and cooking holiday meals with all the grandkid’s favorites. Doris cherished her grandchildren with all her heart and was a HUGE influence in their lives-she lived for family, bowling and making memories for a lifetime. God blessed her with nine great grandchildren who were a well-deserved bonus for her and she loved every one of them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James & Velma Foster; husband, James H. Sumrow; sisters, Kathy Krensavage, Linda Bloomingdale; brother in laws, George Krensavage and David Bloomingdale; half brother, Bobby Foster & wife Cindy; nephew, Stan Krensavage; step brothers, Leon & Jerry Boles; stepsister, Delores Boles.
Left to cherish her loving memory, children, James Sumrow II & wife Darlene, Belinda Sumrow; grandchildren, Heather Williams & husband Daniel, Heath Sumrow & wife Lee Anne, Beau Sumrow & wife Brittney; great grandchildren, Morgan, Palmer, Tucker, Trey, Weslee Sumrow, Abby, Carter, Ayla Joy, Janie Williams.
