Doris Thompson passed away on April 9, 2012, at the age of 92, after a brief illness. She was born in Astoria, NY, in 1920. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished her family and friends, who loved her dearly. Doris was married to Justin (Jud) Thompson for 67 years, until he passed away in 2010. They moved from Long Island, NY, to Houston in 1961, when transferred here with Exxon Oil Co.
Doris was an avid reader, enjoyed working the daily crossword puzzle, and loved to play bridge. She was very talented in quilting, knitting, and needle point, and created many beautiful things. She had a magical touch with her plants and gardening. For many years, Doris formed special friendships while working with several groups to help others -- including a church knitting group making baby blankets for hospitalized infants, and participating in the Aggie Moms Club.
Doris is survived by her daughter Claire Thompson; sons Justin Thompson, Jr. and wife Sue, John Thompson and wife Christina; grand-children Jay and wife Careen, Harry, Doris and husband Arjan, Sarah, Dylan, and Ryland; and great grand-children, Tiffany and Emily. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on April 30, 2012, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Drive, Houston, TX.
