

Dorothy was born on May 31, 1935, to the late Larry Sparks and Elizabeth Mary Crosen. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Gumm Dobbins; her son, David Gumm; and her granddaughter, Christine Dobbins. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 34 years, Wayne Gumm.
She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Scott C. Denison, and her cherished grandson, Mitchel Dobbins.
Dorothy built a remarkable career as a Construction Specifications Writer for architects, beginning her work with the Houston firm of A. I. Morris and later continuing as a contractor for more than 43 years. Her expertise and dedication contributed to many significant projects, including the Gus Wortham Center, the Toyota Center, numerous Houston Medical Center buildings, the Transco/Williams Tower, and even multiple projects at Disney World in Florida. She truly loved her profession and remained active in her work until 2023.
A devoted member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), Dorothy served the local chapter faithfully as secretary for 25 years, as well as regional and national delegate for several years. Her leadership, commitment, and professionalism left a lasting mark on her colleagues and the industry she loved.
Dorothy will be remembered for her passion for her work, her strength through life’s challenges, and her devotion to her family.
A visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, located at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX, 77077, on September 25, 2025, starting at 9:00 am.
A memorial service will follow at the same location on September 25, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am.
The committal will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, also at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX, 77077, on September 25, 2025, at 11:00 am.
