Dorothy Olcott Ball was born to John and Genevieve Ball in Alexandria, Louisiana on September 16, 1913. She married Robert Lee (Bob) Gates in St. Louis, Missouri in 1939. After several years in Oklahoma and Texas, they settled in Houston as Bob was with Humble Oil. They remained there until they retired to Siloam Springs, Arkansas in 1972. They lived there until Bob’s death in 1983.
Dorothy relocated to Texas where their daughter Judy Gates Hicks and her husband, Jerry, lived. She passed away at her residence at Rio Terra in New Braunfels, Texas early in the morning on December 28, 2013.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her brother John, Jr., and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Judy and her husband Jerry of New Braunfels.
Services will be private and the family asks that any remembrances be given to Cal Farley Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX or to the charity of their choice. The family sincerely appreciates the care and support provided by Rio Terra Retirement Center and Alamo Hospice (staff and nurse Vicki Waldon).
