Dr. Inez Debbie Marshburn was born on April 3, 1955 to the late Henry Marshburn and Daisy Marshburn. She was one of eleven children, born and raised in East Harlem, New York. She accepted Jesus into her heart at a young age, continuing to sing in her choir in LA until she relocated to Houston last year. Inez demonstrated at an early age an intellect that was far beyond her time and perhaps significantly beyond the limited resources of her upbringing. She was ambitious, beautiful and sharp as a whip. Her brilliance and drive got her accepted into the selective Hunter College High School, a six year academically rigorous program in New York City. She did her undergraduate studies at Cornell University where she double-majored in Biology and Genetics, graduating with honors. She went to the University of San Francisco and acquired her Doctor of Medicine degree, specializing in Internal Medicine. Inez was much more than just a brilliant mind. She was generous, some might say, to a fault. When she believed in something or someone, she did so wholeheartedly. Inez loved music and entertainment and she had a knack for identifying talent and investing time, money and energy into the aspirations of those who sought her guidance. She was a savvy investor who could parse a deal inside and out. For many years, she was the only medical doctor in her family, and as such she was a consummate advisor for all things medical. Yet, still, there was an innocence about her. Inez was a curious person, and when she had a question or an opinion it came right out with no filter. Some might say that was a function of the fact that she operated on a different intellectual plane. That was just Inez. Inez was a true trailblazer and a role model who showed her contemporaries and the generations after her that there were no limits to what one could achieve if you were motivated and applied your talents. Dr. Marshburn leaves behind her only son, Dusean Marshburn; her mother Daisy Marshburn; siblings, Maxine Harper, Toni Murdien, Carolyn Marshburn, Renee Ozomaro, Angela Marshburn, Anthony Marshburn, Michelle Marshburn, Monique Marshburn and Antoinette Marshburn, and a host of relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
