E. Lynn Grisell, III of Houston, age 69, a devoted and loving husband, father, sibling and friend passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016, while on a hunting trip in Alaska. Lynn was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on April 7, 1947, to E. L. Grisell Jr. and Hertha K. Grisell.
Lynn served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War stationed in South Korea. He later attended The University of Texas at Austin. Following a life long goal, he attended the South Texas College of Law where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence. He later met the love of his life, Judith Ann Muschalik, whom he married in October of 1980.
Lynn was the principal attorney for Grisell and Associates LLP., law firm in Houston, and practiced oil and gas law for more than thirty-five years. Lynn’s favorite hobbies included hunting in South Texas and abroad, along with reading anything related to politics, history, and current events. Lynn enjoyed spending time at a hunting lease shared with his close buddies; Marty Griffith, Greg Hutson, and Steve Salage. He would take his brother-in-laws and their sons there when time permitted to have good long conversations about anything and everything. Lynn and his wife Judy recently spent an amazing weekend at the lease where he shared with her the beauty of nature. They were particularly entertained by all arrival of many cardinals which brought both of them great laughter and joy.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judy; his son Matthew West Grisell and his girlfriend Lindsay Madison; daughter Meghan Kelly Grisell and her fiancé William Hunter Johnson; mother Hertha K. Grisell of San Antonio, Texas; sister Kathy Floyd of San Antonio, Texas, and two brothers David Grisell of North Carolina and his wife Becky and brother John of San Antonio, Texas and his wife Patricia; mother-in-law Therese (Terry) Muschalik; sister-in-law Elaine Wertheimer and her husband Mark; brother-in-law Dan Muschalik and his wife Rhonda; brother-in-law Jim Muschalik and his wife Monica; brother-in-law John Muschalik and his wife Sharon; and numerous nieces and nephews. His two children were the absolute joys of his life. He was an encourager and mentor to both always telling them to do their best in whatever they attempted.
Lynn loved to tell jokes and had a very subtle way of spinning a yarn and making people laugh. Lynn was on the hunt of his dreams in Alaska when he suddenly died, but we take great joy in knowing that he had seen the beauty he always imagined would be present as he boated the shores and briefly walked its trails.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Marty Griffith for his loving friendship and devotion. Marty was a great comfort to Judy, Matthew, and Meghan and the family is thankful for him. In addition, the family wishes to thank the many people in Sitka, Alaska who were so helpful to Marty and them in bringing Lynn home.
He was a good man full of the Holy Spirit and faith and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Acts 11:24.
