Evelyn Juran Goot, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 9. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Evelyn, affectionately known as Ebbie to family and friends, was born and raised in Houston, Texas, graduating from San Jacinto High School in 1940. She married the love of her life, Irwin Goot, on March 27, 1945, and they enjoyed 70+ years of wedded bliss. Irwin survives her as do their three children, Betty Tapick(Mike), Steven Goot, and Barbara Gamson(Michael). She and Irwin were blessed with six grandchildren, Jeffrey Tapick(Rebecca), Lisa Ansari(Amir), Lauren Goot, Taylor Goot, Emma Gamson and Carly Gamson. In her later life, her four great-grandchildren, Jordan Ansari, Allison Ansari, Elijah Tapick and Ezra Tapick, brought her immense joy. Ebbie was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Harry Juran, her sister Sarah Levit, and her sister-in-law Maxine Kamrass. She is also survived by her sister, Jeannette Finger, and her brother-in-law, Meyer Kamrass, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Having lost her mother at an early age, Ebbie dedicated herself to her children, providing the love and nurturing she had so longed for. Family was always the most important thing in her life.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Deborah Meyers at St. Luke’s Hospital and Ebbie’s caregivers Lanorah Woodhouse, Donna Coleman McGowan and Chanta Horn for the warm and compassionate care that they provided.
Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 13 at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ebbie’s memory to Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services, Congregation Beth Israel or the Houston Food Bank.
