TO BROTHER/ UNCLE/ AND LOLO EDGAR

It's with bitter- sweet  tears and heavy heart
To see you , Edgar- brother/uncle/lolo, from us depart,
For, from your earthly journey, God is calling you home
To eternally rest in peace in His bosom.

With mixed emotions,then, we celebrate your leaving us
After having lived your ' fiat ' to God's purpose,
Gratefully cherishing the memories of every touching moment
God willed for us to spend together with peaceful content.

So, with fondest smile and soul-felt prayer,
Our 'adios' but not good-bye, we tearfully whisper,
Firmly believing that at our divinely-destined tomorrow
We will see you again eternally sans pain and sorrow.

When you reach your ultimate, heavenly destination,
Enjoying the mystery of God's beatific vision,
Kindly and fondly remember to pray for us,
That we strive to live every moment for God's purpose.

Uncle Edgar was a constant presence during our growing up years in the Philippines. He was our stand-in parent, alternating with his youngest sister, Auntie Annie (Cuchapin Riparip). Everytime our parents’ work required them to be either out of town or overseas (in my mom’s case) for weeks, and sometimes months, Uncle Edgar was always the first to be asked to take care of us five siblings because he was the closest. He, Auntie Marlene and my four cousins lived less than an hour from us while Auntie Annie stayed in Moncada, a good three hours away. He would drop by at Project 6 a couple of days a week to check on us. Sometimes on weekends, his entire brood would visit us and it would be a riot!  
Uncle Edgar took his role as guardian very seriously to the point of being overzealous. (Sometimes that is. Most times he was just hilarious.) We didn’t understand that at first, but later, we got it. He would pinpoint a strength you have (he noticed everything), or a passion you yourself haven’t even realized yet, and make you believe that you could be the best. He was that one Uncle who took a real interest in his nieces’ and nephews’ lives. And that extended to those who knew him well.

Kuya Ed, thank you for your genuine concern, generosity and love for the Palapals and the Liams. You will always be in our hearts.  Rest well my favorite brother- in-law.
