Edwin S. Barr Jr., aged 91, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 17, 2025. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Ernestine Barr. Like many in the Houston area, Eddie began his career serving the Oil and Gas industry. He began with mechanical drafting and over time would move through the industry in various capacities. After many successful years in sales and then serving as Vice President of a mid-sized precision machining firm, Eddie and his colleague Bruce Wafer decided to take a leap of faith.
In 1981, together they founded their own precision machining company, Bar-W Incorporated. For the next 26 years, they successfully navigated the highs and lows of the oil industry demands; providing beautiful, precision machined components to an array of manufacturing firms in and around Houston. Eventually, as each of them were eyeing retirement, a successful sale of their business was accomplished.
Eddie was an avid outdoorsman, often found on weekends with a fishing rod or rifle in his hand. He cherished his time on the water, or in the woods and created lasting memories with friends and family enjoying what the outdoors had to offer. Additionally, he had a passion for woodworking which he pursued throughout his life.
Also surviving are his children: Edwin “Sonny” Barr, III, Paul (Mary) Barr, Laura Brunner and Kristina Barr; grandchildren: Jake (Morgan) Brunner, Kendall Brunner, Ty Brunner, Jacy (R.J.) King, Hunter (Kassidy) Barr, and Fischer (Taylor) Barr; nieces: Linda Ethridge and Patricia (Gene) Lollar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin S. Barr Sr. and Amy Florence Barr; sister, Amy “Tootsie” Sullivan; and son, Robert Barr.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place, accompanied by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association, https://www.heart.org/, 1-800-242-8721.
