Eitel (Ike) William Schmidt peacefully passed away in the early morning of November 21, 2024 surrounded by his family and beloved pets by his side. Ike was born to Fritz and Joanne Schmidt on June 24, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA and shortly thereafter the family moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Fritz started his architectural firm. Ike graduated from Robinson High School in 1969. He and his classmates have maintained their friendships for over 50 years.
Ike received his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and led a distinguished career as an architect including 30 years with Chevron Corporation as Senior Global Real Estate Advisor (CBRES). He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and in retirement he dedicated his time to giving tours of Rice University and Houston Downtown as well as serving as a mentor to high school students in the ACE program. He was lovingly devoted to his family and friends. Ike’s passions were music and sailing. He was most fond of classical guitar music and loved playing his guitar and singing. Having grown up in Puerto Rico and learned to sail at a very young age, he was at home on a sailboat. He loved the ocean and everything associated with it; sailing, snorkeling and fishing. Ike was a kind and genuine soul and a pun master. He kept his humor right to the very end. He always had a sunny look on life. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Joanne Schmidt and is survived by wife Barbara Schmidt, his children Katerina Dunaway and Max Schmidt, his stepchildren Nina and Rachel Horvitz, and grandchildren Julian, Britton, Cameron, Joanne, William, Araya, and Evangeline.
