

ELAINE M. GAVREL PAPANTONAKIS beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Godmother, Niece, Aunt and Friend left our loving arms Friday, July 1, 2011, but she will never leave our hearts. A native Houstonian, she was a graduate of Sam Houston Senior High School and attended University of Houston courses in English, Journalism and Psychology. From 1950-1969 she worked directly for the City of Houston Chief of Police, Hermann Short. She was an accomplished, published author, winning several awards. Her most cherished role in life was that of “YiaYia.” She was a devoted member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos Society. Elaine was preceded in death by her father, Louis John Gavrel, mother, Pauline Fress Gavrel, brother, John Louis Gavrel, niece, Paula Gavrel Asher, nephew, Louis John Gavrel and her grandparents who welcomed her to heavenly rest. She is survived by her husband, Peter E. Papantonakis, her son, Johnny P. Papantonakis and his wife Caryn and their son Xander Peter and daughter Zoe Eleni, her beloved Tyler & Mia, her godson Kostaki Tsokos, and also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will greet friends Tuesday, July 5th from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Earthman – Hunters Creek Chapel. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 pm. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 6th at 11:30 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd. Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. Pallbearers: Tomo Kaneda, George Tsioros, Greg Tsioros, Clive Markland, John Gavrel, Chris Gavrel, Tommy Gavrel, Yanni Gavrel, and Konstantine Kalfas.
