Elaine “Joyce” West, age 85 a resident of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away on Sept. 11, 2021. Joyce was born in Venango, PA. Married August 27, 1955 in Harris County Texas to Howard West. Both sides of the family, the Sutton’s, and the West’s, moved to Houston from Pennsylvania. Mom retried from Exxon Mobil to take care of Howard who had been stricken with Parkinson’s. Prior to Exxon, Joyce worked at Foley’s for many years as a cashier supervisor where she made many lifelong friends. She did such a great job taking care of Howard and kept him going. She was very detailed with his meds and documented every minute of his day and the side effects he experienced from the medications that he was taking. Her diaries / notes were shared with the Baylor Neurological Parkinson’s Group in Houston they were working with.
Joyce and Howard loved to travel, and every summer the family would go on three-week vacations in their travel trailers along with her sister Doris and her brother-in-law Bob Meek, and their kids. Joyce always said she was happiest when she was in her van and traveling. After Howard’s passing, she took many long-distance trips in her van to visit friends and their Army buddies.
Joyce is survived by so many dear lifelong friends who she always stayed in touch with. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl and her husband Rolly Fey of Hurst Texas, son Dale West and wife Sally West of Dallas. She is survived by her grandson’s Christopher and wife Roxanne Morrison of Aledo, and grandson Kenny Morrison and wife Sabrina Morrison of Aledo.
