Elias and Felipa Carrizal, Eli was a resident of El Crisol barrio before moving to Magnolia Park upon marrying the love of his life, Mary Jane. Elias and Mary Jane were married on January 24, 1965 (in which he always lovingly joked he saved her from becoming a nun) and together they had twin sons. He was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School, Class of 1962. Eli was a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force Reserves. He was a cement mason for Local Union 681. He also was a supervisor for the City of Houston Right of Way Maintenance Department. Upon retirement, he found time to work for the United States Census, while taking on full-time Grandpa duties, which, without a doubt, was his most treasured job of all-time: after-school pick-ups, after-school care (which included way too many stops at Church's Fried Chicken), school events and many wild adventures that have just recently surfaced. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Young at Heart Club. Eli was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3077, where he served as Grand Knight for several years and also was a member of the 4th Degree Knights. Eli was a hard worker, beginning as a young child doing migrant work across the United States with his grandparents, to laying cement for many of Houston’s notable buildings that grace our beautiful city skyline. He was a great story teller and jokester. He valued hard work and education, and was most proud of being able to provide a Catholic education to his twin sons. His work ethic and educational values culminated not only with his sons graduating from college, but his grandchildren as well. He was a devoted husband, loving father, brother, uncle and the best Grandfather anyone could ask for. He was larger than life, yet a gentle giant—his greatest traits were his generosity and love for his family and friends.
Eli was truly a gift; he was awesome and he will be missed beyond belief. His spirit, his laughter, his temper, and his love survives inside his family: his twin sons, Timothy and Thomas, daughter-in-law, Debra, but especially in his grandchildren, Thomas Matthew and Bianca Alina. He is survived by his siblings, Anita Coy, Raymond Carrizal, Emily Adame and Stella Carver. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane, parents, Elias, Sr. and Felipa, brothers Jesus and Robert and brother-in-law Robert Coy.
