Elie P. Calonge

Deacon Elie graduated as valedictorian in high school and cum laude in college with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also held a degree in chemical engineering and was a seminarian at a Jesuit seminary in Manila, Philippines. Deacon Elie retired as a chemical engineer and was ordained as a Catholic Deacon in 1987. He devoted his life to religious education and charitable works. He was assigned to Notre Dame Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, as a Deacon in 1987, then proceeded to do missionary work in Los Angeles, California, for five years.

He returned to Houston and was assigned as a Deacon to St. Justin Catholic Church, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and later assigned back to Notre Dame Catholic Church until his passing.

Deacon Elie was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Dina Calonge, whom he married in 1965. They had no children.

Deacon Elie and Dina founded the San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila Community Center in Sugar Land, Texas.

A visitation will be held on February 10, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Notre Dame Catholic Church, located at 7720 Boone Rd, Houston, TX 77072. The Funeral Mass will follow from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm at the same location. The Committal Service will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
