Elizabeth Faye Rutherford (Green), 77, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026.
Born on May 15, 1948, in El Campo, Texas, Elizabeth was the beloved oldest child of Giles Green and Willie Lee Green. She later made Houston, Texas her home, where she lived throughout her adult life and built a legacy rooted in strength, faith, and family.
As the eldest sibling, Elizabeth naturally carried a deep sense of responsibility that shaped her character. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elvester Green, who passed away on October 3, 2023. She is survived by her brother, Robert Green; his wife, Aline Green; their son, Robert Green Jr.; his wife, Nina Green; and their daughter, Katelyn Green; and their daughter, Nakada Gusman; her husband, Terrance Gusman; and their daughter, Taniya Gusman.
Elizabeth was strong-willed, determined, hardworking, and deeply caring. She believed in perseverance and led by example. Her resilience shaped her family, and her love sustained them. Though firm in her convictions, she had a nurturing spirit and fiercely protected those she loved.
She was also known for her sharp wit and playful spirit. Elizabeth had a quick sense of humor and enjoyed good-natured banter with those she loved most. Her laughter filled the room, and her affectionate teasing was always a sign of how much she cared.
A dedicated and faithful member of Family of Faith Fellowship Church for over 20 years, Elizabeth was a true believer in God. Her faith was something she lived daily — through her strength, her service, and her unwavering devotion.
Elizabeth spent over 30 years working in the medical field. She approached her career with diligence, integrity, and a strong work ethic that reflected her commitment to excellence and service to others.
She was also an avid seamstress who found great joy in creating with her hands and passing that skill along to her children and grandchildren.
Her greatest pride and joy were her children. She leaves behind her three children: Yolanda Rutherford, Adrian Rutherford, and Christel Rutherford, who is married to Christopher Going. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nyesha Rutherford, Donnie Watson, Secley Watson Nunez, Christopher “Man” Going, Christian Rutherford, Miles Benford, DeJuan Smith, Jr., and Elijah Going; as well as her great-grandchildren, Aniya Rutherford Campbell, Kiara Campbell, Antwan Campbell, Kimora Campbell and Maleja Campbell.
Elizabeth’s legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her strength flows through generations, her determination is reflected in their perseverance, and her love remains the foundation of her family.
After a life lived with strength, devotion, humor, and steadfast faith, we trust that she has heard the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Her work here is finished. Her rest is eternal.
