

Elsie Linda Belier (Douglas) was born October 3, 1928 to the union of the late Charles MacDonald Douglas and Rosetta Douglas (Yarde) in Barbados. She was the fourth born of the fourteenth children to this union. Irvine Yarde, Horace Yarde, Neville Yarde and Verene Celestine Phillips (Douglas) preceded her in death. Elsie the oldest of nine girls was the consummate big sister and the second mother after the unfortunate early death of their Mother at the age of forty six. A nurturer to all her siblings, loving each and every one in a unique special way. This nurturing spirit became the cornerstone of her personality. Elsie was a lifelong resident in the Island of Barbados. To pursue her dreams received her Certificate of Naturalization in the United States of America Eastern District, of New York in 1975. In her pursuit of happiness Elsie worked diligently in her domestic field of caring for others. Along this journey she was blessed with her only child Sandra P. Douglas. Eager to pursue her dreams Elsie received her Certificate of Proficiency to become a certified nursing assistant at the Advanced Career Training of New York. This was her true passion, caring for others. Deeply rooted in her Christian beliefs, Elsie was baptized in the Paris of Christ in the Island of Barbados, November 18, 1928. As a faithful servant of God Elsie attended and was a member of the Stapleton U.A.M.E Church of Staten Island, New York. As her life journey continued during her retired years she returned back to Barbados briefly and ultimately moved back to the United States to spend her last three years of life in the care of her daughter in Houston, Texas. Upon her arrival she immediately found a church home, Spring Woods U.A.M.E Church of Houston, Texas. As a dedicated woman of her faith she looked forward to attending every Sunday. As her health began to decline she was unable to attend services. Elsie took pleasure in fellowship with television evangelist, Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church of Houston, Texas one of her many favorites. Elsie enjoyed the love of Hymns and Christian music and one of her most gifted talents was playing the piano Hymn after Hymn. Elsie was received in the Masters arms on December 3, 2014 at 9:58 PM. She leaves to cherish her memory nine siblings. Her only daughter: Sandra Patricia Douglas of Houston, Texas. Her only granddaughter: Brittney Chanel Gillies of Houston, Texas. Her only great grandson: Chidozie Melvin Ugo Jr. of Houston, Texas and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
