She was born in Lawtell, Louisiana on February 4, 1937 to Elton and Aline Landry and was given the birth name LV Landry. Delivered at home by a mid-wife, she was the middle daughter to a family of five children.
On June 19, 1954 she married Adam Thibodeaux at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Lawtell, La. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Houston, Texas and were blessed with six children.
Elva was a devout Catholic and instilled in her children the importance of knowing and loving God and they all attended St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. She volunteered as a Catechism teacher and after the untimely death of her husband in 1975, she became a member of the KPC Ladies of Auxiliary Court #248. She enjoyed travelling with the organization to attend the National Conventions and was crowned Queen at one of the KPC Annual Mardi Gras Balls. She was recently awarded with a plaque denoting 44 years of dedicated service to the KPC Ladies of Auxiliary.
She worked for Ben Taub Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and retired from Memorial City Hospital in 1996. After a short time of being retired, she missed the work she loved doing for so many years. She then decided to take a position at Cy-Fair Hospital and remained there until her final retirement in 1998. She was known to be a dedicated worker and really enjoyed going to work every day.
Elva found herself being a single mother of six and was determined to raise her kids on her own while filling in the gap of their father. She LOVED her children and was always there for them, each one having their own special bond.
Elva was fun-loving with an outgoing personality and she loved to be on the go. She never wanted to be left out when it came to having fun and was many times considered to be the “Life of The Party”. She loved to talk, travel, dance the zydeco and spend quality time with her family. She enjoyed going on vacations, shopping sprees and just being spoiled by all six of her children. As she grew older, she held on to her youthful appearance and people were always amazed at her age. Elva was blessed to have her children by her side when “GOD” called her home.
Elva is preceded in death by her parents; Elton and Aline Landry, her late husband Adam Thibodeaux, and her sister Georgia Duplechain.
Forever in their hearts, she leaves to mourn: her six children, Leon Thibodeaux (Renee), Faye Robinson (Reggie), Darlene Lee (Lester), Marlene Thibodeaux, Pamela Cannon (Delwin) and LouAnna Valentine(Joe), her sister Carrie Williams, two brothers: Curtis Landry (Mildred) and John Whitney Landry (Sheila), 6 grandsons: Jerome, Chris, Jeremy, Kristopher, Adam and Joshua, 1 granddaughter: Fallon and 4 bonus granddaughters: Yvonne, Tierressias, Eugesia and Courtney, 9 great grandchildren along with 6 bonus great grandchildren, 3 Godsons: Kenneth Duplechain, John Wayne Williams, Marvin Tibbs Jr. and one Goddaughter: Menicia Richardson along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
