

Elvin Burnett Pippert, Sr., 98, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in Houston, Texas. Elvin was born to Friedrich Gottlob (Fred) and Emma Emelia (Dvorak) Pippert in Victoria, Texas on Aug. 8, 1915. At the age of 6 his family moved to Houston where he grew up in the Heights. He graduated from Reagan High School and continued his education at a two year business school. He married the love of his life, Minnie Mae Rita Byrne on October 14, 1939 in Houston, Texas.
At the outbreak of World War II, Elvin joined the Army and served until the end of the war. He then returned home to Houston where he went to work at his brother Aaron's company, Universal Packing and Gasket which later became UTEX, until he retired in 1995. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Elvin and Minnie were a couple devoted to one another and to their three children.
Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Minnie and his two brothers Arthur and Aaron. He is survived by his sons Elvin Pippert Jr. and wife Jerri of Houston, Fred Pippert and wife Mary of Sugar Land, and daughter Beverly Massey of Wimberley, Texas. Grandchildren: Michelle Schoenberg and husband Rich, Jon Pippert and wife Julie, Amy Melendrez, Jamie Tucker and husband Jason, Lee Ann Davis and husband Mike, Kristen Sachdeva and husband Akshay and Nathan Massey and wife Katey. Great-grandchildren: Erica, Adam and Joel Schoenberg, Helena and Elisabeth Pippert, Natalie Melendrez, Makai Sachdeva and Cohen Massey. He has many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of him. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers who took care of him over the past year.
A Memorial Celebration will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079 on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home chapel. Private interment will take place at the Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
